LARNet is sponsored by North Carolina Central University, the nation's first public Historically Black College/University HBCU. NCCU was founded in 1910 by Dr. James E. Shepard. Dr. Shepard's founding principle, "Truth and Service," is NCCU's motto and one in which LARNet hopes to continue. Truth refers to research that strives to find it; Service refers to our commitment to recreation practitioners and educators. Truth in research, service in application.
